Menopause Care

Menopause marks the permanent end of menstruation and fertility in women. It is confirmed when a woman has no menstrual periods for 12 consecutive months, not due to other medical conditions. It typically occurs between ages 45–55, with the average age being around 51.

Do’s

  • Eat a nutrient-rich diet with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
  • Increase calcium (1200 mg/day) and vitamin D for bone health.
  • Include iron-rich foods like lean meats, legumes, and leafy greens.
  • Eat more fiber from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.
  • Add omega-3 fats from fish, flax, and chia seeds.
  • Incorporate phytoestrogen-rich foods (soy, flaxseed, chickpeas, berries).
  • Stay hydrated and maintain physical activity.
  • Limit salt intake to below 5 g/day.
  • Manage stress with yoga, meditation, and adequate sleep.

Don’ts

  • Avoid refined sugars and processed foods.
  • Limit saturated fats and red meat intake.
  • Reduce caffeine and alcohol; they can worsen hot flashes and disturb sleep.
  • Don’t smoke — it increases heart disease and osteoporosis risk.
  • Avoid a sedentary lifestyle; stay active.
  • Don’t skip meals or follow extreme diets.

Other Care Tips
