Infertility Issues

Infertility is the inability to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse. It can affect both men and women, with a wide range of possible causes.

Causes of Infertility

  • Female factors: Ovulation disorders (PCOS), blocked fallopian tubes (STIs, endometriosis), uterine issues (fibroids, malformations), hormonal imbalances, age, chronic conditions (diabetes).
  • Male factors: Low sperm count/quality, blockages, hormonal problems, testicular failure, toxins, smoking, alcohol, drug use, infections.
  • Lifestyle/environmental factors: Smoking, alcohol, obesity, stress, poor diet, toxins, medications.
  • Unexplained infertility: No clear cause found in some cases.

Dos

  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Eat a nutrient-rich, balanced diet (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins).
  • Exercise regularly (moderate activity supports hormonal balance).
  • Manage stress (yoga, meditation, counseling).
  • Practice safe sex to prevent infections.
  • Limit exposure to toxins and chemicals.
  • Seek medical advice early if struggling to conceive.

Don’ts

  • Don’t smoke or use tobacco.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Don’t use recreational drugs (cannabis, cocaine, steroids).
  • Don’t ignore chronic conditions (diabetes, thyroid problems).
  • Avoid extreme diets or sudden weight loss/gain.
  • Don’t delay seeking help (especially after 35 in women, 40 in men).

Diet Tips

  • Antioxidant-rich foods: Berries, nuts, leafy greens, whole grains.
  • Healthy fats: Omega-3s from fish, walnuts, flaxseed.
  • Protein sources: Lean meats, eggs, legumes, dairy.
  • Iron and folate: Leafy greens, beans, fortified cereals.
  • Limit processed foods, trans fats, and added sugars.
